Does beard oil really work?

You might have spotted a new product on shelves and in our online store recently... beard oil! This beauty product for men has come back into fashion along with facial hair, and we are here for it.

Let's talk about what beard oil is, what it does, and how to choose the right one for you or your partner.

What is beard oil?

Beard oil has two purposes: it nourishes your facial hair, and the skin underneath. Facial skin is sensitive, and it gets a lot of wear and tear, so it's important to care for it properly. Beard oil is easy to use; you simply rub it into your beard and chin after washing your face.

Most beard oils are a mixture of "carrier oils" and "essential oils". That means there's an oil which makes up the bulk of the product (such as sweet almond, jojoba or argan), plus oils which have active properties. For example, tea tree oil is great for clearing out your pores. Other essential oils might be included just because of their scent, like sandalwood.

There are other, similar products on the market too. You might also see "beard balm", which is a highly concentrated, oil-based moisturizer.

Tools of Men has a great article about how beard oils work, and which ingredients to avoid.
